CSS (who manage cycle rides for a number
of charities) are appealing to members of
Bricycles who would like to come to Holland to help us
in September 2009. The ride is called Tour pour la Mer and raises
funds for the Mission to Seafarers – so in the best seafaring tradition you
would be asked to ”work your passage”.

CTC are promoting short friendly local bike rides for less confident
female cyclists called ‘Five Miles to Fabulous ’ . There are over 100 free bike
rides for women across the UK
on 7th-8th June 2008. The rides are to encourage women to
take up cycling again and have the confidence to cycle for 5 miles. There is a page of rides for the South East.

On Saturday 7 June, over 200 people are expected to take part in
Brighton’s third annual World Naked Bike Ride. The event is part of an
international environmental campaign promoting cycling and protesting
against oil dependency and car culture. Following negotiations with
Sussex Police, full nudity is not considered a problem. This year a
post-ride picnic is also planned at the city’s naturist beach.

Do you have a Bicycle Users Group at work / college? If not, start one! Get together with other cyclists at work to push for good facilities e.g. covered cycle parking and to encourage others to cycle. One cyclist is one less car parking space, and car parking can cost employers upwards of £1000 a year!

Work has finally started on the £500,000 task to restore Shoreham’s old Tollbridge to its former glory and safeguard its future. Much of the finance has been raised, but there is still a deficit of £95,000 to meet. So, if you care about this wonderful local facility for cyclists, walkers and horse riders, please get involved by entering this fun cycle ride on Sunday 27th July and help to meet this final target.
