Space for cycling

20140514 - SpaceforCyclingcroppedThe national Space for Cycling campaign is calling on councils to improve the quality of life for all, by making our streets and roads safer and more inviting for everyone to cycle.
This means:
1.    Protected space on main roads and at junctions
NOT poor pavement conversions that stop at every side road!
2.    Removal of through motor traffic on residential streets
Deliveries, refuse collections and resident access would be unaffected.
3.    Lower speed limits
20mph in villages and built-up areas. 40mph or lower on rural lanes.
4.    Cycle-friendly town centres
People prioritised over motor traffic to create vibrant high streets.
5.    Routes through green spaces and parks
6.    Safe routes to schools
Bricycles Campaigns Officer, Becky Reynolds talked to CTC about the creation of the invaluable North Laine contraflows. Read about it here.
Space for Cycling is being coordinated by CTC, the London Cycling Campaign and Cyclenation groups. Brighton has been commended for infrastructure like the Lewes Road and the Old Shoreham Road. Click here for the guide for councillors.
