20 mph speed limit for centre of Brighton and Hove

This is wonderful news for road users. It is one of Bricycles’ long term campaign goals. Following agreement at the Transport Committee on November 27, Brighton and Hove City Council is introducing a 20 mph speed limit for the centre of Brighton and Hove from April 2013. Officers are to proceed with advertising the formal Speed Limit Order for the changes in speed limit in the Phase 1 Area.

20mph.jpgFrom the COuncil website: "The move follows public consultation carried out in the summer on plans for a phased introduction of 20mph speed limits in most residential and shopping streets in the city over the next four years. A total of 3,689 people responded to the consultation, of which 55% were in favour of 20mph limits and 44.5% against. In addition many residents across the city have submitted requests for 20mph speed limits on their streets."
