Managers at Brighton Station information desk have confirmed to
Bricycles that the cycle parking at the front of the station will not be
reinstated. They also said the cycle parking at the rear of the station
will remain and will be expanded.
However the provision at the rear of the station does not meet the needs of those arriving from the South or West of the station, or just wishing to buy a ticket. The rear of the station is accessed from the front by cycling through a busy taxi rank and then dismounting to walk along the timber-decked pedestrian area. The current situation has seen a massive increase in fly parking around the front of the station and Councillor Ian Davey (Cabinet Member for Transport) has suggested that Southern may not be meeting their obligation under their franchise agreement to have ‘reference to existing capacity and passenger demand for such facilities’ when providing cycle parking.
We’re still awaiting the outcome of the meeting between the Council and Southern on the matter. Southern have promised to respond to Councillor Ian Davey following this meeting.
In the meantime, you can request cycle parking on the Council website.
