Green Party organises protest and online petition to save The Drive cycle lane

Brighton and Hove Green Party organised a protest this weekend to save The Drive cycle lane in Hove, which was a great success despite the rainy weather. Brighton and Hove Council has announced plans to spend £1.1m removing this key cycle route to make way for heavy goods
traffic going to and from Shoreham Harbour.

have also setup a Facebook Group and Online Petition, please do register your support.

This apalling waste of public money has gained widespread attention from national and local media. Bricycles and the Brighton and Hove Green Party have appeared on BBC’s South Today programme, local radio stations and a number of national cycling websites explaining why this is an apalling waste of public money by the Tory controlled Brighton and Hove Council. Bricycles broadly supported the plans to implement this important link route from the
seafront National Cycle Network Route 2 with Hove, Hangleton and the
South Downs but raised a number of reservations with the Council at the time. However, we do feel that the facility’s design issues
could easily be rectified, and at a fraction of the £1.1m removal cost cited in the Council’s current plans.

Please do sign the online petition. Your support is greatly
valued and will make a difference to this high profile issue, so please sign up and invite your friends to do so too.
