Preventing cycle crashes in Brighton & Hove

There have been a number of reported crashes recently in Brighton and
Hove where cyclists were injured. Bricycles have requested from the
Council Environment Directorate details about the circumstances and
outcomes of the crashes, and the remedial measures which have been put
in place to prevent repetition.

whitebike_london.jpgWe have also requested information on progress with having the Coombe Road junction advance stop line (ASL) reinstated as there have been 2 recent crashes there to our knowledge – and in both instances reports say that the cyclist was going straight on, but the left-turning car turned into them.

Phil Clarke, Road Safety Manager from Transport Planning Section, Environment Directorate has responded to say that they will conduct this research in late July and will be looking at Lewes Rd/Coombe Rd and in particular will assess how much work is required to reinstate the ASL.

We look forward to hearing more later this month and will keep you posted.
